Introduction to The Music Jar
This website is operated by the Music Jar Ltd whose registered office is Parkgates, Bury New Road, Prestwich, Manchester, M25 0JW, United Kingdom.
‘The Music Jar’ is an Independent Music Library - we are not registered as an MCPS Production Music Library and are therefore able to keep our costs low without commission to pay or middlemen to deal with.
This website allows its users to perform detailed music searches, audition and download tracks to preview against visuals. It allows registered users to purchase licences to use our music within their productions.
Unauthorised Synchronisation, Broadcast, Public Performance, Copying, Hiring or Lending of any track from ‘The Music Jar’ is strictly prohibited, unless written authroisation is given by ‘The Music Jar’.
The registered user is granted a non-exclusive licence to use tracks from The Music Jar within their production(s). For an exclusive licence, you must contact us to discuss your requirements.
Usage Types / Permissions granted
For Usage Types: YouTube, Vimeo, Social Media, Corporate videos, Wedding videos/slideshows, Student films/productions, Blogs/Vlogs, Business & Personal Websites, Personal use.
This licence allows you to synchronise the purchased track worldwide in perpetuity with an unlimited number of multimedia projects providing that projects are restricted to the uses and platforms listed above in the 'usage types'. This license does not cover the use of any kind which is not listed in the usage types.
Apps & Duplication
For Usage Types: Apps/Games, Physical Reproduction (DVDs, CD-ROM, Data Storage Devices) eBooks.
This licence allows you to synchronise the purchased track worldwide in perpetuity with a single multimedia project or product, providing that it is restricted to the uses and platforms listed above in 'usage types'. This is a duplication license and is limited to a MAXIMUM of 5000 units of your project or product. For additional units, please contact us.This license does not cover the use of any kind which is not listed in the usage types.
TV & Radio
For Usage Types: TV & Radio programming (including advertising), TV Films, TV & Radio series.
This licence allows you to synchronise the purchased track worldwide in perpetuity with a single multimedia project providing that it is restricted to the uses and platforms listed above in the 'usage types'. You must remember to accurately complete any cue sheets, clearly stating the name of the track, including our tag (For Example: Perfect Track - TMJ2014), the duration, name of composer and publisher (The Music Jar Ltd). This is to ensure that our composers are paid their performance royalties. This license does not cover the use of any kind which is not listed in the usage types.
Film & Theatrical
For Usage Types: Theatrical Film Releases, In-Theatre Advertising, Videos-On-Demand/Video Streaming Services
This licence allows you to synchronise the purchased track worldwide in perpetuity with a single multimedia project providing that it is restricted to the uses and platforms listed above in the 'usage types'. You must remember to accurately complete any cue sheets, clearly stating the name of the track, including our tag (For Example: Perfect Track - TMJ2014), the duration, name of composer and publisher (The Music Jar). This is to ensure that our composers are paid their performance royalties. This license does not cover the use of any kind which is not listed in the usage types.
For all other usage not mentioned in our Terms and Conditions, you must contact us and tell us what you intend to use the music for, so we can create a licence that perfectly suits your requirements.
For example: Music only productions such as Audio CDs require written consent from ‘The Music Jar’. You may not re-record, sample, duplicate or sell any music from The Music Jar without express written consent. Please contact us at: email@example.com 0161 432 3113.
Additional License Information
Any purchased licenses and recordings are for use for you, your employer or your clients. You may not share, sell, or transfer the license in any way whatsoever to any third party.
Any purchased licenses and recordings may not be made available to be downloaded as individual files and may only be distributed or shared as part of a multimedia project or product,
Any purchased recordings may not be re-sold as 'your own music' regardless of whether the recording has been altered, sampled, or had additional instruments or vocals recorded with it.
All licenses are non-exclusive and under no circumstances will anyone other than The Music Jar Ltd. or the composers themselves own the copyright to the music.
Subscription Fair Use Policy
Our annual subscriptions are intended to allow users who require lots of music the option to pay a one-off fee in return for access to download and use as many tracks as they need, within the restrictions of our four main license types. All subscribers must adhere to our 'Fair Use Policy'. Our fair use policy encourages the fair and proper use of our services, and aims to eliminate the possibility of exploitation. Any users consistently downloading very large quantities of music (in excess of 250 tracks per week, may be contacted in order for The Music Jar to verify that any account is not being used inproperly. Our aim is to ensure that our customers get great value and also that our artists and composers get fair treatment. We appreciate your support in this.
Do I Qualify For Free For Broadcast?
To Qualify for our Free For Broadcast licence (FFB), you must produce a minimum of 3 broadcast productions per year, within the UK, for either TV and Radio commercials, TV and Radio programmes, documentaries, game shows, News programmes or similar productions. If these productions are broadcast in the following territories, or other royalty bearing countries, then you may also qualify for our Free For Broadcast (FFB) licence:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,Turkey, United Kingdom, USA.
To find out whether you qualify, you must accurately complete our FFB membership application or contact us to discuss your specific requirements: firstname.lastname@example.org - 0161 432 3113. We will then assess your application and let you know whether or not you will qualify for our Free for Broadcast (FFB) licence within 48 hours.
What is Free for Broadcast?
Those who meet our specific requirements and qualify for FFB, will effectively be entering into an agreement with The Music Jar and given full access to our entire catalogue of music tracks, with permission to synchronise any of them within your ‘broadcast’ (only) productions, free of any charge, no repeat fees, in perpetuity.
We will also actively contact those who qualify and offer our unique Free For Broadcast licence, should they wish to take advantage of this.
For those who qualify for our unique FFB licence, each time you download and synchronise one of our tracks within a ‘broadcast’ production, you must validate your usage licence (free of charge) by registering the production title and giving as many details as you can at the time of checkout / download. We understand that these details may not be available at this point in time, so alternatively you must record the music usage on a cue sheet in the usual manner and supply this to both ‘The Music Jar’ and to the broadcasting company prior to the first air date.
Reporting the music usage
If you use our music within a broadcast production, you must complete a cue sheet, submit it to the broadcaster and send us a copy. email@example.com It is vital that you take care to accurately complete your cue sheets, clearly stating:
1. Track Name, including our tag (For Example: Perfect Track - TMJ2014)
2. Composer(s) / Arranger(s) name(s).
3. Duration of track used.
4. Publisher (The Music Jar).
This information ensures that The Music Jar and our composers receive the correct share of the performance royalties, following the usage of their music in your broadcast production. You must also give the name of the production, programme or series and any broadcast information, where known. If you have any questions about reporting the music usage, please don’t hesitate to contact us, so we can help.
You must add a credit, wherever possible and especially within Film, TV or web films. If you use one or more ‘featured’ tracks (opening / closing titles, theme tunes or simply prominent tracks), then please include the following information:
1. Track Name (No tag required - For Example: Perfect Track)
2. Composer(s) / Arranger(s) Name(s)
3. Published by The Music Jar.
Productions that use several tracks from The Music Jar, for background purposes, we request that you please credit as ‘Additional Music From The Music Jar’.
In the event of a breach of the above Terms and Conditions, action may be taken against you directly by ‘The Music Jar’.
